The cockpit is positioned aft to provide an enhanced view of the surrounding marine environment. The wooden hull features a monohull design and was constructed by Cardnell Brothers in 1962 based on Laurent Giles’ design. It has a fin keel and a wheel steering system.

Navigation equipment includes radar, a chartplotter, a compass, a speed log, a wind indicator, a depth sounder, and a VHF radio. Additionally, there is a compass, a wind vane, a GPS radar, a Navtex system, a fishfinder, a VHF radio, and a searchlight on board.

The Scythe’s sails include a 2003 mainsail with a McWilliams’ free-footed reduction system, a McWilliams roller-furling genoa (2003), and a McWilliams’ mizzen sail (2003). The boat is also equipped with a cruising sail, a yankee, a staysail, and two spinnakers, all in good condition.
